Aim
The language learning is inseparable from the development of cultural competence. In this respect, students learning English language should get acquainted with the American culture since it is the culture of native-speakers. At the same time, the study of culture should include the learning about outstanding places of the USA. This is why the current lesson plan is focused on Los Angeles since it is one of the largest cities of the USA and an important cultural center of the entire country. In fact, students learning English language need to get, at least general information on such a city as Los Angeles because it will contribute to their understanding of the real life of Americans and the life of one of most important cities of the country. In such a way, students will be able to develop not only their language competence but also cultural competence.
Level
Basically, the lesson meets the early-intermediate level and it can be used in teaching such students as Anabel. In fact, such students are interested in the life of such cultural centers as Los Angeles, but often they lack information on such large cities, their history and current development as well as the life of the local population. At this point, the focus on Hollywood, which is renowned worldwide, is particularly interesting for students. In fact, the lesson allows them to get more information on Los Angeles and Hollywood in particular as well as on significant events in the cultural and social life of the city.
How to use the lesson
The lesson should start with brainstorming activity. At first, it is necessary to prepare students to the lesson and introduce the subject of the lesson. This is why the brainstorming activity should focus on Los Angeles and what students know about this city. In actuality, it is possible to use some topics raised on the Worksheet A (see below):

Below are ten pieces of information about the city of Los Angeles that have been split into three parts and mixed up. Can you put them back together again?
1 Los Angeles, or L.A. for short, is the second ‘Hollywood’ sign in the Hollywood Hills. the American film industry.

Students give some ideas concerning Los Angeles and what they know about the city and the teacher can understand to what extent students are acquainted with the city.
After the brainstorming, the teacher should hand out the Worksheet A and divide students in pairs to work on the worksheet. Students will need five minutes or even more up to seven-eight minutes if necessary to put the mixed-up pieces of information back together again. In such a way, students will attempt to create a coherent text, although in grammatical terms there may multiple options to making up sentences.
When the time is up the teacher should check the answers in open class, while students should read their sentences.
After that the teacher should hand out the Worksheet B (see below)

Students will keep working in pairs to find out their mistakes and correct them. The teacher should warn students that the mistakes are all grammatical or lexical and mainly students need to change a word and they do not need to write more than one additional word.
After that, it is necessary to answers in open class. In such a way, students will get their final version of their work, which they can check and correct if necessary. In the end of the lesson it is possible to hand out the Worksheet C to make sure that students have corrected all their mistakes and got correct answers (see below):

In such a way, the students will learn important cultural information and develop their language skills. In fact, the lesson is focused on the development of analytical thinking of students, for they need to combine different parts of sentences and make-up a coherent text. In addition, they can improve their lexical and grammar skills as they need to find and correct mistakes in the sentences. In addition, they learn to work together with their classmates that contributes to the development of their communication skills. Moreover, the mutual work improves their interpersonal relationships and makes the learning process more effective. At this point, it is worth mentioning the fact that often students are more confident when they are working in pairs since they can count for the assistance of their partners.
Thus, taking into account all above mentioned, it is possible to conclude that the lesson plan discussed above develops language and cultural competences of students. At the same time, it is important that the lesson raises themes and issues which are interesting to students, while interest of students as a key factor that contributes to their successful learning. In such a way, it is possible to achieve positive results in learning with minimal efforts from the part of students since interest is the probably the most effective motivation for learning.
